Proper Tree Maintenance

Millie Davenport
Home & Garden Information Center

With warmer weather approaching, gardeners are anxious to get out and work in the yard. Since trees and shrubs are the anchor plants for our landscapes, be sure to include them in your spring clean-up plans.  Proper tree maintenance (i.e. irrigation, mulching, fertilizing, pruning, and monitoring for pests and diseases) will increase the chance for long-term survival.

For more information on these maintenance techniques, see: HGIC 1000, Fertilizing Trees & Shrubs; HGIC 1056, Watering Shrubs & Trees; HGIC 1003, Pruning Trees; and the HGIC Poster, Tree Maintenance.
