The Rising Sun™ redbud is an eye-catching specimen tree adaptable to different soil types and moisture levels. This small tree (tops out at about 8 feet wide x 12 feet tall) is suitable for USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 5-9. Redbud is a native tree that grows in full sun. As long as growing conditions are favorable, new growth is produced due to indeterminate apical meristems. What makes this redbud particularly attractive is that new leaves start apricot-orange, mature to yellow, then lime-green, then green, before settling into golden tones for autumn. Heart-shaped leaves hang on low, lateral branches and are shed annually (deciduous).
